13 DAYS PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI IN TANZANIA

Finding the right spot for perfect pictures can be tricky. With local guides and a special jeep for photographic safaris, you head out to capture unique nature, culture and wildlife scenes for eternity.

First on your photographic safari agenda: a visit to the Tarangire National Park, home of the elephants. During a day and night game drive, you meet both diurnal and nocturnal animals. After this first exhilarating experience, you discover the green oasis of Mto Wa Mbu in a tuk-tuk as well as the scenic Lake Manyara National Park. A mix of stunning landscapes and fascinating culture awaits you next – with the Hadzabe tribe and Lake Eyasi, as well as a visit to a Maasai village and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Keep your eyes open and your camera on standby, since the Big Five and countless other African animals roam this special speck of land.

You continue to the (in)famous Serengeti, crossing it from central west to east by 4×4 and a hot air balloon: as the sun rises slowly, you take off into the sky, and the animals of the endless plains begin to stir, creating a scene so beautiful, only nature can paint it. Perfect for pictures you will cherish forever.

The Serengeti also sets the stage for the Great Wildebeest Migration. During this spectacle, millions of wildebeest and zebras gallop towards greener pastures. If you go to Tanzania at the right time, you can travel to the Ndutu region, where new life is brought into this world during the wildebeest calving season.

No matter if you want to capture the most colourful birds or the captivating gaze of a lion – this photographic safari will provide you with the perfect setting.

Day 2 - 3

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is well known for its big groups of elephants and the huge amount of giant baobab trees. These trees can live for hundreds of years and are actually a source of water for elephants in the dry season as they have a special technique to draw water from them. Besides, the Tarangire River is the only source of water in the dry season, which is why in this season in Tarangire you can see groups of up to 250 elephants next to many more animals! Watch the video of the park here.

Day 4

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park lies between Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, right along the 400 meters deep Great Rift Valley. The park boasts a variety of landscapes that attract many different animals. You can for example visit the lake that covers 75 percent of the park, pass through a dense rainforest with hundreds of monkeys and birds, and see elephants up close in the woodlands.

Day 5

Visit Lake Eyasi and the Hadzabe tribe

A visit to Lake Eyasi and the resident Hadzabe tribe makes for a fascinating daytrip. Lake Eyasi is a seasonal shallow salt lake south of the Ngorongoro Highlands, and a paradise for bird lovers. Spot hippos in the shallow waters, then take out your binoculars to spot for example the African spoonbill, flamingos, gray headed gulls, great white pelicans and pied avocets. Then visit the Hadzabe bushmen, masters in bow hunting.

Day 6 - 7

Ngorongoro Conservation Area (incl. Crater)

The famous Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa's seven natural wonders. The crater was formed two million years ago when a vast volcano erupted. The fertile lava has created a unique ecosystem, now home to the highest concentration of animals found anywhere in Africa! Once in the crater, thousands of animals such as lions, zebras, buffalos and black rhinos surround you, and the views are astounding – you won’t know where to look! Watch the video of the park here.

Day 8 - 10

Serengeti National Park (central west/east)

Serengeti National Park is widely known as the place to go on safari, mainly because of the Great Migration that passes through here. The enormous, stampeding herds are impressive, as are the vast amount of predators that live here: over four thousand lions, 225 cheetahs, a thousand leopards, 3500 hyenas, and hundreds of wild dogs! And of course, plenty of other beautiful animals, which your guide will be delighted to search for together with you. Are you ready for this? Watch the video of the park here.

Day 11 - 12

Ndutu (only from end of December to March during the calving season of the Great Migration)

From late December through March, the Ndutu region becomes the heart of the Great Migration, as over 2 million animals arrive to give birth. The Ndutu region straddles the southern part of the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The short, nutrient-rich grass makes the area a haven for newborn zebras and wildebeests, but also a prime spot for predators. This seasonal gathering creates close-up wildlife sightings and constant activity across the plains.

Accommodations:

Day 13

Outbound international flight home from Kilimanjaro Int. Airport

The last day! Depending on your flight time, you can relax in the lodge a bit longer before heading to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home. Having second thoughts? It's also possible to add a few days to your holiday by going to one of Tanzania's paradise islands, such as Zanzibar, Pemba, or Mafia!
