Unguja Ukuu is the name of a village where Zanzibar tourists rarely set foot in. This very special boat trip starts in the village Unguja Ukuu, far away from the tourist paths. A traditional (but motorized) dhow boat takes you to the small uninhabited islands of Miwi and Nianembe or Kwale in the protected Menai Bay, where you will be shown the unique flora and fauna of the tropical islands of Zanzibar. The boat trip takes 45 minutes and offers the chance to spot dolphins. The island of Niamembe is connected to a white sandbank, perfect for relaxing, and the sea around the islands is excellent for snorkelling.
A cook from the village Unguja Ukuu will prepare freshly caught fish on a grill and arrange local dishes and tropical fruits. At low tide you can walk around the island with a village guide and he will show you a mystical cave behind the island. This full day excursion is perfect for those who seek privacy and not crowded tourist spots. It is an excursion for sunbathing and relaxing on the beach, swimming and snorkeling, depending on the wind direction on the day of the tour.
