Roaring into this month’s spotlight from Tanzania, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Romina – one of the passionate experts behind Tanzania Specialist.

Our monthly Get to Know the Faces Behind Tanzania Specialist series takes you behind the scenes to meet the people who make every safari truly unforgettable. From travel tips to insider stories, this is your chance to connect with the people shaping your Tanzanian adventure.
My name is Romina, I grew up in Switzerland, and I’ve been working for Tanzania Specialist as a seller for the German market since 2024. At the same time, I’ve started a non-profit daycare to support the local community. This way, I can work in both of my dream jobs at the same time. In these short two years, Arusha has already become my home away from home.
I love Mount Kilimanjaro! The mountain sometimes takes away my homesickness, since it reminds me a little bit of the Swiss Alps. In September 2025, I climbed to its summit, and standing on the Roof of Africa was the most unforgettable moment in my life. It felt a bit like being back home.

The surrounding nature and stunning view took my breath away… and just thinking back gives me goosebumps all over again. During this experience, I had the chance to interact with guides and locals on a whole different level, while reaching my own limits. It’s a unique and very personal experience that I’ll remember forever.
Exploring Tanzania at night, from above and eye-to-eye with local wildlife: Romina’s favourite activities spark pure excitement.
Even though Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro are classics that many people visit year-round, this route is, in my opinion, the best choice for a first safari experience. There are so many animals and such diverse vegetation. The chances of seeing both the Big Five and the Great Wildebeest Migration are extremely high. Moreover, there are lodges to suit all budgets and preferences – it’s completely up to you whether you want to be immersed in nature and sleep in a comfortable tent or pamper yourself with first-class luxury between your adventures in the bush. No matter which option you choose, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
My very first safari! Seeing all these animals living in freedom was insane and brought me to (happy) tears. I will never forget when a huge group of elephants passed between our car, just two metres next to me. That night, I fell asleep with a big smile on my face.
Versatility at heart: Romina’s ideal tour ranges from climbing Kili to meeting wildlife in their natural habitat and relaxing on picture-perfect beaches.
Best of both worlds: Wildlife and tropical beaches
Visit Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti
Tanzania is a huge country and there are still so many places which are barely explored. On my bucket list for 2026 is a trip to the chimpanzees in Gombe or Mahale. I’ve always dreamed of seeing them in their natural habitat. It’s an area I’ve never been to, but it has so much history. First flying from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma, then visiting Lake Tanganyika, and crossing the lake with a boat – why not? It must be impressive and oh so beautiful.

Don’t be scared, Tanzania is a safe and family-friendly country to travel to. There’s just one thing you must bear in mind: don’t forget your insect repellent and sunscreen. Starting your trip with itchy bites or a bad sunburn is a nightmare. Protect yourself well and you’re in for an unforgettable holiday.
