With its charismatic “Robinson Crusoe” atmosphere, Greystoke Mahale exudes an undeniable sense of adventure. It lies at the foot of the densely forested Mahale Mountains, where a thriving population of chimpanzees lives. The bandas are open to offer the best view of Lake Tanganyika and the adjoining bathrooms are accessible via raised wooden walkways. A viewing deck on the upper floor offers a quiet oasis after a rewarding day of chimpanzee trekking. The guest area is loosely based on traditional Tongwe architecture. It consists of a bar, dining area, library and small elevated platforms that have been converted into comfortable seating areas and offer a magnificent view of the lake. Guests can indulge in a variety of sumptuous dishes and arrange private candlelit dinners on the beach. In addition to chimpanzee trekking, kayaking, refreshing sundowners aboard a romantic dhow and fishing are also available.
